70mm f3.5

The setting 70mm f3.5 on my camera and lens is my personal favourite these days to use in the studio. 70mm creates enough depth between the background and subject that doesn't make the photo look too compressed with minimal distortion of the model. F3.5 creates a nice sharpness while still maintaining a soft edge :)

Here's a sneak peek photo from our recent studio shoot (70mm f3.5)

New life in Toronto

I've visited Toronto a couple of times before. I like how similar it is to Tokyo, where I grew up. It's a city of many options, and I am happy to restart my passion here.

This is a sneak peak from a photoshoot done in our new studio.

Thank you to the awesome makeup artist, Rhia Amio, model, Agnes (Elmer Olsen Models) and the stylist, Michelle Davis, for this shoot.

Happy New Year 2015

It seems these are going to be the last photos I can show this year. Here are some shots from a fashion test shoot I did a while ago. It was so much fun to edit all in black and white this time. It's a different kind of joy to edit, with your focus mainly being on controlling the brightness, darkness and sharpness.

This coming year, I hope to continue realizing new aspects of photography in order to deepen my style.

Hope you all have a great start to the year 2015!

High key

A while ago, we had an editorial photoshoot in my studio. I didn't have any photos with high key lighting in my portfolio and have been wanting to set that kind of shoot for a while now.

We are grateful to have had the chance to work with Sharleen (Key Model Management) for this shoot.

I believe she has so many weapons as a fashion model. Her looks and creativity show much potential for her future.

Also big thanks to our talented MUA, Faye Smith and the awesome wardrobe stylist, Michelle Davis.

Please check out the editorial in my gallery page.

Make up contest

A while ago, we collaborated with a talented MUA, Paula Lanzador, for her entry for a MUA contest. We ended up doing 4 different make up looks. Each one was a totally different theme and it was a pleasure to see such a variety in creativity.

I want to improve my retouching skills way more, but I need to accept the level that I am at right now.

Big thanks to the model, Isla Hughes and the stylist, Michelle Davis.

Hope you can enjoy the images from our shoot.

Please check out the final 4 images in my gallery page.

Fashion designer

A while ago, we collaborated with a fashion designer, Minhee Jo (http://www.aaizel.com). She visited Vancouver from Australia to showcase her latest collection for Vancouver Fashion Week.

Thank you so much again for letting us use your awesome clothing and hope you enjoyed your stay in Vancouver.

Everything went as planned for this photoshoot because I knew Claudia's skills well since we had collaborated a couple of times already.

Thanks again to our strong team members, Claudia Bakehouse, Andrea Salazar, and Michelle Davis.

Please check out the whole editorial on my fashion gallery page.

Skin tone

I have been editing a lot of photos these days. One thing I am really focusing on now is skin tone. I've been trying to find a nice balance between the tones of brown and green. I'm still far off from the creating the image that I want to achieve, but I'm anticipating finding my own recipe for that some time soon :)

The photo below is an image from our latest test shoot with Elysha (Key model management). Big thanks to all the members involved in this photoshoot. (Jocelyn Chen/MUA, Michelle Davis/wardrobe stylist)

Test shoot with Hannah

The other day, I did a fashion test shoot with Hannah (Key Model Management). I focused on how simply I could feature her traits through various clothing styles. Hannah is really fast to pick up anything I mentioned about posing or expression and I was glad to be able to work with her.

Also, Heather, the MUA, is a multi talented artist. She is a model, photographer, MUA and headpiece designer! Thank you so much for your help with posing for this shoot. Also, always a big thank you to Michelle Davis, the stylist.

Vancouver Fashion Week

This month, we collaborated with 3 clothing designers from Vancouver Fashion Week. Each designer's clothing was really unique in their own way so it was a challenge for me to put them together as one editorial. Here are some behind scenes shots, more images to come later !

Much appreciation to everyone involved on these photoshoots.

Ira Maslennikava

Before Summer is over, we had one last location shoot with an awesome model, Ira Maslennikava. We collaborated with Paula Lanzador on make up, who had very impressive talent. Our beauty concept this time was a mixture of dirty and elegant. As I was editing the photos, I was able to see her work up close and I began to realize just how skillful she really was. Paula is one of the best HMUA artist we've worked with, so I appreciate her collaboration a lot. And thanks always to the wardrobe stylist, Michelle Davis.
